We leave Hawaii on a cruise ship to New Zealand Wednesday. We spent today preparing for leaving the country. The first thing that needed doing was making sure every laptop was in top shape by going to the Apple Store. Then we went to different stores to try to get situated for snorkeling on the trip (They are must haves for Tahiti and the Great Barrier Reef). Here is a little list of what I am bringing, other than what was already packed.
1. Aqua Sphere Goggles-$25 It is actually quite hard to find the right pair of goggles. These things are amazing. They seal to your face like no other pair of goggles in the world and never fog up. A little bit expensive, but worth it.
2. Snorkel-$5 Not a name-brand, in fact it was the cheapest one I could find. All the other snorkels were pretty expensive, and I really only need a tube that I don't have to pick up my head up to breathe.
3. Fins-$? Some pretty nice swim fins that fit really well. I don't know the price exactly, but I think they were somewhere around $20-30.
4. Aqua Socks-$7 Yes, these things do look pretty lame. That is probably one of the reasons that they are so cheap. I would normally never get them, but I would rather wear geeky-looking shoes in the water that nobody can see, than step on a stonefish and DIE. I think it was a smart purchase.
5. Wallet-$7 I got a black, leather wallet that looks super businessman-like for cheap. It might seem like a pointless buy to most people. You need to understand that my current wallet is very fat and heavy. It is also red, so it sticks out like a sore thumb. This new wallet is super thin and light. You can't see it poking out of my pocket, and it isn't a burden to carry around. In other countries there is a lot of pick-pocketing on tourists, so I thought that this would be a better choice.
Day 7
Rocking... How long it the trip to New Zealand going to take? How long on the boat and will you have access to internet when traveling so you can keep us posted? Plus, give us some distentions on the boat size, type of boat, # of passengers... anything you can give us.
ReplyDeleteThanks and keep up the good work.
Uncle P.
The boat ride is going to take 15 days from Honolulu to Auckland. There is wi-fi, but you have to pay for it. We may or may not be getting it. I am not certain at the moment. These are the dimensions of the boat:

Gross Tonnage 78,491
Length 915.35 ft
Max Beam 105.6 ft

Looks like you will be traveling in the lap of luxury. After not wanting to leave Hawaii, you may want to never get off the boat.
Enjoy and stay in touch. Say hello to the family for us.
Love
Patrick
By the way, I wanted to let you know that you should watch your step. I found this cruse boat tracker on line and will be watching your every movement across the open sea.
