Day 40

I haven't been able to post the last couple of days for a few reasons. The wi-fi ran out at the motel we were staying at, and then we went to the Occupation. That is where we are staying, in our recently bought tents and sleeping bags. The Occupation is a huge group of people from all over with the same views about Wall Street camping out in tents Aotea Square to spread awareness. They have been there for 8 days without being kicked out and stay there, always NONVIOLENTLY, for as long as they can. There are at least 50 tents filled with activists. It is most easily compared to a miniature Live Oak Music Festival with no drugs or alcohol allowed. There is a lot of music going on and hopefully my dad can impress some people. Here is the link to the Occupy Auckland website. I am also thinking about getting a skateboard because there are a lot of spots here, and Victoria skatepark is AMAZING! I went there with Carey a few days ago, but couldn't take photos because it was too crowded. There is an Almost complete at a local shop for 229 NZD. This might seem steep compared to the US, but it's actually the best deal that I've seen. Auckland is great and I am hopeful for the future of the Occupation.

  1. Declan-
Just curious, what do the occupiers expect Wall Street to do? What action can they take to cause the tents to leave Auckland?

  2. Auckland is showing support for the Americans' Occupy Wall Street. That is our reason for being here, because we can't join in on the protests back home.

  3. OK, then if you are showing support for the NY protests, what do you think they need to have happen so they can go home? For example, there were protests during the Vietnam War to stop the war. When the war ended, there were no more protests.
